Camberwell Grammar in Melbourne needed a shade sail for their outdoor courtyard. Used for outdoor barbecues, the space had little natural UV protection. A correctly positioned shade sail can block out up to 95% of the suns rays and cut heat levels down dramatically.

A creative shade sail solution was required to provide maximum shade cover and complement the building’s blue grey overtones.

Mulders have an innovative 'floating' shade sail design and were selected as the school’s supplier. Load bearing fixing points were identified on the building to reduce the sail’s footprint. Only two supporting posts were required offering less obstruction for students and staff. For solid construction and durable tensioning, each supporting post had a large diameter.

The sail was designed from a stylish aqua blue architectural grade membrane to blend in with the building’s décor. This high quality membrane was UV resistant, able to provide superb protection from sun and wind. Supporting posts were made from hot dipped galvanized steel, resistant to rain, salt corrosion and rust.

The end result was a cool inviting outdoor space covered with a light and airy looking shade sail. Students and staff could now cook barbecues in comfort, whatever the weather!
